Swinley Burns

As Swinley forest continues to burn one week on from my visit there with Mike and Lucy, I'm reminded of a couple of great days biking with my friends.

Live music and comedy

It's been a great week of live music and comedy in the west country. Started on bank holiday Monday with Anna Calvi at the Thekla on the waterfront in Bristol, followed by that old stalwart Wilco Johnson at the Fleece on Friday. Last night's visit to Bath was very entertaining, what with dodging some heavy downpours on my bike and three excellent turns on the comedy stage at Komedia. Of course I ended up sat at the front and got picked on by one of the comedians. It's always the way; can't keep my big mouth shut and when asked is there anyone here from the north, there's only one answer to that.

Snowblind

I've been going in The Old Fox on the Gloucester Road on and off for a couple of years ago. It's a real locals pub that hosts rock bands. I saw Snowblind last night with a couple of friends. Snowblind are a West Country based Black Sabbath tribute band. They were superb. What a great night.

Hipstamatic - my new favourite app

Hipstamatic - It's well Hip.....

This is a great little photo app for iPhone. Interchangeable lenses, flash and film allows you a multitude of combinations for creating that vintage look.

Northern Eyes and Northern Skies - we were meant for each other

I've been a fan of the Manchester band I Am Kloot for a couple of years now after seeing them in Bristol. I've bought all their albums and I was excited to hear that they used a good friend of theirs' - Guy Garvey of another favourite band of mine - Elbow, to produce their latest album.

This is a track called Northern Skies. These Northern Eyes regularly miss you.
